Frequently Asked Questions

What is the expected outcome of this internship?

We start with the bootcamp that guides students step by step from basic coding to building a complete handwritten digit recognition system.

They start with Python fundamentals, control flow, data structures, and debugging, then learn how engineers plan solutions using algorithms, pseudocode, and simple data structures. Tools like GitHub, AWS WorkSpaces, and VS Code, and Jupyter Notebook are introduced early, with an emphasis on practice over memorization and on organizing data for machine learning.

Students will then move into applied ML: NumPy and matrices, the MNIST dataset, exploratory data analysis, visualization, and image preprocessing with OpenCV. They learn the full supervised learning workflow using Logistic Regression as the main model, along with evaluation metrics, hyperparameter tuning, and brief exposure to alternative models.

Finally, they build and refine an inference pipeline on real-world handwriting, practice experiment tracking and communication, follow GitHub and documentation best practices, and conclude with project demos, peer reviews, mentor feedback, and a retrospective that highlights their new engineering mindset.

Do I need prior programming experience?

Yes. Programming knowledge in any language will be a good fast start for the students. Programming knowledge in Python will help to start immediately on the internship project.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Students who successfully complete the internship will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Is this a real internship?

Yes. Students will work on a structured, project-based internship designed to simulate real-world AI development while receiving guided mentorship and practical learning.

How much time do the student need to spend daily for completing this internship?

The program is structured to have mentoring hours every day morning and another hour in the evening for any doubt clearing and knowledge sharing session. Since this is an internship project, students can leverage their time to learn, explore and complete the project under the guidance of the mentors. The overall program is structured to get completed in four weeks, but we also put an additional week for enabling students for boot strapping the programming in Python and documentation/presentation of their project.

Is this a course in Artificial Intelligence?

No. This is not a course in AI. Students will be mentored under the guidance of college students to build hands-on working model for Handwriting recognition. During the course of internship, students will get familiarize with ML models, approaches and train models.
